Wooing the Odd Muse: Cory Doctorow on the Viking Youth

This week we have the unique pleasure of talking to science fiction author, blogger extraordinaire, and digital freedom fighter Cory Doctorow about his new "young adult" novel, "Little Brother".

"Little Brother" follows a group of young San Francisco hackers who organize and fight back against the rogue forces of the DHS to rescue the Bill of Rights. "Little Brother" is more than a gripping story of young kids learning to be free, it's a primer on security technologies, a lesson on counter culture history, and a road map to inform tomorrow's best minds on how to stand firm and fight for cognitive and civil liberties.

Cory will be discussing "Little Brother" tomorrow night at Barnes and Noble on Webster and Clybourn tomorrow night at 7:30, please come out and support him.

Sex and the Pity

We here at the Viking Youth Power Hour are pleased to announce the new vanguard of green living; an automobile that runs entirely on pussy!

Matty confirms that, indeed, he is the future of Gay sex as Alex let's us in on his leatherdaddy fantasies. Also, secrets of the grail revealed! Artificially intelligent IP addressable pocket pussies! And the mysteries of the Vagina....

It's our long talked about, often requested Viking Youth show on Sex and, in service of thematic accuracy, disappointingly short.

Cob Houses and Natural Building

I first got turned on to Cob houses by the great site, I Love Cob a year or so ago. I then told Matty about it and he ran with it, falling in love with the art and science of natural building. So you could imagine our surprise when we discovered a good friend of ours, Anna Wolfson, is a talented natural builder right here in Chicago.

Anna was brave enough to put up with an hour or two of our bullshit in order to drop some serious science about the many virtues of natural building.

Learn about how and why Anna got involved in natural building and how she is using her skills to transform her life and the live's of others around her. And most importantly learn some great ways of how you can begin to build your home "not for who you are, but for who you want to be."

The Vikings Report on Don Rickles

Last week the Vikings had the unique pleasure of seeing the one and only Hockey Puck, Don Rickles, live at the Potawotami Bingo Casino in Milwaukee. Cozy up to your squawk box while we fawn over the Merchant of Venom. And, not only did the old Sultan of Insults bowl us over, but his opening act, Gene Ferrari, grew us some fresh dendrites and delivered them with class.

We also discuss some sex ed follies and learn some surprising information about Matty's 8th Grade basketball coach.

Lastly, we blow the lid off the the FBI sting on the Viking Youth.

This week's show comes to you with only 2 men standing, Viking Alex and Viking Mat. Viking Brian was on assignment in the Himalayas, while Viking Jason and Thomas Shade were in the Dells celebrating their 3 year anniversary.

In remembrance of the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Alex and Mat discuss the ways they came to know the good doctor and how they celebrate the man every year. They also discuss the speech Bobby Kennedy gave on the day of MLK's assassination.

Lastly, Matty finally drops the facade and confesses to how he is actually a Bush man trapped in a woman's body.

It's a mediocre show this week made especially with you in mind. Proceed....

Erik Davis On Scientology

Dipping back into our Playa archives we found another few segments with author, culture critic, and volunteer hi-li champion Erik Davis.

In this episode Erik talks extensively about his research into Scientology for his wonderful book "The Visionary State" discussing techniques, history, it's relevance through the 60's, as well as the weird Scientology video you may see as a potential recruit.

Never satisfied to talk about only one wacky cult we ease our whiskey-stained selves into chatting about the corporatization of Burning Man and the occult aspects of corporations.

In a perfect world Erik Davis would rule the world by joystick from a wood-paneled bunker in the suburbs of southern California.

In this episode we take a lithmus test of one travelers journey along the spirit parade. For this experiment we tapped the only person we could reasonably consider for something like this, the Vikings maddest listener, Jade!

We follow him from wide-eyed book hungry kid, through his LSD use, to his stay at the Blue Cloud Alley, to being a facilitator at an Ibogaine facility in southern Florida, and to, most recently, investigating the teachings of Wayne Liquorman.

Jade is a rare natural resource and this show is as fun to listen to as it was to record. Enjoy it!

We cover all the hits, Tom Cruise's baffling video, "Wacky Jack" Parsons, Soul-Cracking, the bearding conspiracies, the new books, "ANONYMOUS"... as well as discussing our previously failed attempts to do a show on Scientology and the suspicious Moon Child rites of it's highest ranking members. Plus, we leave a bit of time to make fun of Aleister Crowley.

Shane and Amy Bugbee, the Johnny Appleseeds of Podcasting, joined us for an evening to talk about their fascinating upcoming project... A Year At the Wheel.

Stopping in 20 cities for 10 days a piece, Shane and Amy will be taking a barometer check on what real Americans think about the state of our strange nation. In addition to this they'll be distributing old computer gear and teaching interested folks how to make their own podcasts.

So why is podcasting's favorite transgender maven of information Adam Curry reneging on his support in the 11th hour? Maybe it's because of the Ely episode? Or Shane's tasteful venture into the Satanic Porn industry? Most likely though, it's Amy's strange obsession with the works of Dark Arts Master Jean Shephard.

If you live in Chicago please come out to support Shane and Amy's project when they kick it off at the Empty Bottle on November 4th!!

We then get into the internet phenomenon of the days of yore, John Titor, the time travellor who returned from the future to find an old IBM computer and warn us about our upcoming civil war and nucleur holocaust. And odd spam from a time traveller most likely just trying to find Paul Laffoley.

Finally, the Vikings discuss where, if they had a time machine, they would go and what happens when the sexual revolution goes to Wisconsin.

It's the morning after the man burnt and we've got Charles Shaw (at the time he was the editor-in-chief of Conscious Choice, now low these 2 weeks later he is the editor-in-chief of Reality Sandwich) who worked with the media team during the very serious press conference about the assassination of the Man. We discuss this very serious matter without laughing.

We discuss our favorite art pieces from this year and the phenomenon of "bike cocking" before belly-flopping into a fairly disjointed conversation on economics.

Whiskey, Trannies, Zeppelin, and Dust: Erik Davis Is Back with the Vikings

In our first show recorded live at this year's Burning Man festival esteemed journalist of the tasteful Erik Davis returns to offer his annual report from the trenches.

We find out what Erik has been up to low these many days since our last adventures: writing for Reality Sandwhich, helping to co-ordinate the "Hair" of the burning world the "Burning Roadshow", and slogging around Burma with "lady boys", the transvestite-shaman who act as emissaries for the Nat Pwe in an annual whiskey fueled south-eastern voodoo-like festival.

We also discuss the "Burnt Man", this years most cathartic and novel aspect of the Burn, when a failed method-actor shimmied up our craven god and created the most effective artificial crisis anyone has seen in years. We hear the rumors, we discuss the implications, we ignore the blow hard who actually did it (it was Batman, sssh...).

And lastly, we discuss the devil's play things themselves, the dark lord's proto-cock-rock heathen's themselves...Led Zeppelin!!! Erik is teaching a course - The Crazy Wisdom of Philip K. Dick - at the Maybe Logic Academy starting September 17th, go here to sign up now.

The Vikings Interview Paul Laffoley at EsoZone

After our set at the EsoZone conference we spent some time chatting with visionary artist, Paul Laffoley. After chatting for a while we were taken by the notion to do an impromptu interview with Paul for the attendees of the conference.

What you will hear is the audio recording of most of that interview as captured by the good folks at Phase II. It's short and not the greatest quality but it documents one of the high points in our lives to be sure. Paul talks about what makes his paintings more than fine art, where his iconography and imagery originate from, and his natal chart among other things. Enjoy!

The Vikings have left for Burning Man. I'm going to make a hollow promise that I will upload shows while we are on the playa, but take that promise with the grain of playa dust it is offered with. If you're coming to Black Rock City please stop by Radio Free Valhalla and say 'Hi!'

This week the Vikings investigate the strange "aerial drones" that have been reported appearing over the state of california. These strange little bastards not only look believable and have a solid, convincing tale spun to support their existence and some of the clearest photos ever taken of an alleged U.F.O., but have stirred the collective internet pot with tomes of speculation as to it's existence and, should it be a hoax, how they might be made. regardless of it's presumed truthiness this is a truly fascinating story to be told. combining sigilization, Paul Laffoley-styled post-physics, and a hell of a collection of documents to support the fascinating claims, if this is a hoax it's the best hoax ever created, if it's not isn't it odd that our initial response to this and any aspect of the numinous these days is to presume it must be part of some cynical marketing campaign. what does that say about our species?

Ibrahim for Citizen

This week the Vikings record their show while enjoying a wonderful meal at Cafe Gulistan. Cafe Gulistan is a mediterranean restaurant in Michigan owned by Ibrahim Parlak. Ibrahim is as kind, intelligent, humble and funny as a person could be. He's a succesful restauranteur, a husband and father, the kind of guy you want in your life, as your neighbor, and your friend. Ibrahim is a model immigrant and, more than that, a model human being who loves his Freedom and loves what the United States is meant to be. Ibrahim is also the subject of continued harrasment, imprisonment, and the blatantly illegal and slanderous attacks of the Department of Homeland Security and INS.

But where other immigrants struggles with a rogue government go silenced and unheard, Ibrahim was fortunate, he had a community; a town full of people who know him, love him, and will stop at nothing to assure his Freedom, which he has fought so hard to attain, remains intact.

And while his friends, family, and Congressmen work tirelessly to help him our government has put equal amounts of energy into disrupting this gentle man's life, going so far as to kidnap his brother in a last ditch effort to express their flaccid control.

We are proud to know Ibrahim Parlak and honored that we are able to participate in his pusuit of life, according to his own design, in a country designed to insure that right.

The Vikings Scoop Sicko!

Long time friend of the show Michael Moore has sent a screener of his new film, "Sicko", for review and asked us to let him know what we think. And friends we're here to say that this film really could blow the doors open on the clusterfuck that is America's Health Care system.

This is Michael Moore at his best. Infuriating, heartbreaking, funny, and disturbing. If this film doesn't elevate the dialogue to the volume of demand nothing will. This is yet another brick in the window of the unraveling myth of the New Nazi America... let's bring that whole fucking house down, eh?

We also discuss the most recent Yes Men event and the plight of Ed Brown and the first use of the internet to protect it's citizens from a rogue agency under command of a roge government.

This week the Vikings venture down that wayward path towards yet another prestigious Peabody Award. Like the great masters of the past, the Vikings toss aside the map and saunter towards resolution with the cool comeupance of a band of illegitimate muppet babies in the summer sun.

Payheed Barbara Walters, your day is coming. It won't be long now when you bray and bay on our doorstep, begging for a little bit of this uncommon gold.

Living Art

In celebration and anticipation of Dave Lowman's show opening this Friday June 1st at the Garden Fresh gallery at 119 N. Peoria #3D we sit down with Dave and Garden Fresh owner Tom Burtonwood to discuss the roll of art, the idiosyncratic ritual that is the creative process and the value that the unholy culture collision of Burning Man brings to an otherwise stagnant art world.

We also spend a good amount of time waxing nostalgic for the good old days of Carbondale and a legendary party that acted as the seminal seed for distributing the viking family around the world.

To be honest I haven't listened to the show yet cuz those incompetent cocksuckers from SBC can't figure out how to fix my internet connection so I don't know what else to write.

Chicago Police Torture

Recent video and news pieces circulating amongst the international press has brought a grim spotlight on the long, proud legacy of police brutality in Chicago. So this week the Vikings welcome Chicago civil rights lawyer Kurt Feuer to the table to discuss the case of his client, Madison Hobley, and the systematic torture that was occurring back in area 1 and 2 under the officiating of Jon Burge and ignored by then States Attorney Rich Daley.

What we see after laying all of these dour cards on the table is a who's who of present day Chicago politics with the major players - from the Mayor to Appellate Judges to retired cops lounging their acne pocked fat rolls on house boats down in Florida still collecting checks from the people of Chicago - all still standing under this dark shadow they helped create 25 years ago.

This is a grim tale of corruption, racism, and the most vile instincts of humanity. But what's more disturbing is it's also a story of how responsibility can be evaded and human life disregarded in the muddy, violent race to the top of the political food chain. But true Justice is rarely parsed without responsibility firmly and vigilently held by the people defining the electorate, be it in local politics or in the national arena of our festering foreign policy and the institutionalized atrocities at Gitmo, Abu Ghraib and beyond.

Recent Nielsen polling shows that more than 34% of all hippies listen to the Viking Youth Power Hour, 18% of which have just knocked up their vaporizor and are "soooo open to fresh ideas and shit, myan." So, as a way to say thanks to all you Nappy Haired Hippies, this week we offer you our interview with OneLove, Kachina Katrina, and Ryan Wartegna from the Burn Clean Project as we discuss their many efforts to get Burning Man 95% carbon neutral by 2010 and the many ways you can help them acheive their goal.

Now, we don't mean to harsh your mellow, but this is Earth Day weekend, so once you're able to locate your dog and sate that unusual rash popping up by your armpit with a dollop of patchouli-scented scabies salve, please, prick up your ears and take notice to some of the great ideas put forth in this show and help make Burning Man - and the rest of your life -carry a lighter footprint as we step another year deeper into the future.

This is the last installment of our shows recorded live on the playa from 2006.

During a chilly March evening in Chicago, the Vikings attempt to travel to that palm tree island sunset in the mind and discuss the joys of the easy-livin' summertime. But it has been a long winter, and things derail quickly: tantrums, insults, stories that go nowhere. Listen as four men have nervous breakdowns simultaneously! The weather in Chicago is warming up, and we all feel much better now... Our exit music is a song called "The End's Not Near" by the excellent band The New Year. They were kind enough to give us permission to use this great song. Please check them out. So good!

INLAND EMPIRE: David Lynch Part 2

This week the Viking's continue their discussion of master filmmaker David Lynch as they dive into the deep end of his masterpiece, INLAND EMPIRE.

Using a PD150, a family of rabbits, and a strong trust in his intuitive faculties as inspired by "the interconnectedness of all things", Lynch has created a film that is ground breaking in it's means of development and singular in it's use of insinuation, sound, and stunning visuals to create a noir maze of terror unparralleled even by Kubrick's "The Shining".

Hey! The Vikings will be at the David Lynch Weekend to get indoctrinated into the TM cult, why not join us?

The Man from Another Place: David Lynch Part 1

This week the Vikings tackle their long awaited (for them!) show on one of America's greatest living film directors, David Lynch.

In celebration of his amazing new effort, INLAND EMPIRE, the Vikings look back over the career of a director who can not only ignite the imagination, but also weigh the heart of his audience in pounds per inch of loss and terror. Traversing his early career from "Eraserhead", to "The Elephant Man", "Dune", "Wild at Heart" and "Blue Velvet" we take a road - often times paved in totally inaccurate information regarding his biography - to discuss our favorite master of film.

What can you say? Tipping our hat to this giant mind and brilliant heart is one of the great joys of living in this strange and beautiful world. Check in next week for Part 2...

We wax pedantic about the mores and traditions of this half-cocked holiday in honor of a rogue saint who somehow lassoed up a holiday in his name without even being canonized by the pope. I'm sure he'd be proud by the many creative ways drunks across the country have found to celebrate his high holy holiday.

The People Inside: The Viking Youth Interview Abbie Hoffman

In true Viking style we offer you this week a scoop 40 years in the making. Field correspondant Tom LaPorte brings us a 23 minute interview he held with anarchist, guerrilla clown, and stand-up revolutionary Abbie Hoffman back in 1969 during the Chicago 7 Conspiracy Trials.

We split the interview into 5 pieces, give listen and then comment upon each section. Topics range from the binding of Bobby Seale, the trial of the press, the meaninglessness of reform, and the future of judicial law in America.

Almost 40 years after the interview, Hoffman's words still buzz with relevance and hum with an electrical current vital to today's political climate.

Who will be the conduit for these words tomorrow?

A Very Dub Viking Youth

Every so often we will be spotlighting new and promising cult members of the Viking Youth. Often these profiles will focus on Vikings who have both the chemical propensity and the internal promimse that we feel creates the kind of human who can confidently serve the front lines of this strange and timely battle we find ourselves within. Make no mistake about it we are quite choosey in who takes rank amongst our inner circle of brain damaged warriors, the risks are too great and the pleasures too strange for us to simply leave the doors of our great palace open to just anyone.

It's our hope that this Cult Member Spotlight series can help other young, aspiring children - those who might someday want to see themselves amongst this elite collection of god crushing delinquents - understand just what it takes to be a Viking and to offer them something by which to model their lives upon. Of course, we offer no gaurantee of recruitment and little hope for salvation, but friends in this time of the Great War of the Ages we must ask ourselves "What is more valuable: The prospect of salvation or the promise of a New Tomorrow?" Your answer to this question (and a nominal donation) is your first step along this dark and sordid path that may someday find you among the ranks of the Viking Youth.

This months spotlight: Bdub "The Shrub" Sangdwhich, III

Also featured in this episode is a detailed retelling of the infiltration of the Viking's grand vessel, the Ragnarok, into the Chicago Halloween parade and it's fine combustible ornament it lit this fine city aglow with. We have also included an attack against the Viking Youth by Evangelical minister the Rev. Harland Jenkins (2nd cousin once removed of the infamous Rev. Darnell Jenkins). Take heed friends, the battle is upon us.

We return to the playa with part of our Friday interview where we discussed WVO benefits and conversion with valkyrie, raw foodist, dancer, and reality TV star Tonya Kay.

For the first part of the show we talk about the benefits and the struggles with converting your ride to run on waste vegetable oil. We compare Tonya's experience with her 2001 Jetta to the Vikings experience with Ragnarok.

In the second part of the show we get down to the information everybody really wants... what was it like on the set of "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?" Learn first hand what it's like to be put through the deconditioning mechanisms of TV Studios and the Church of Scientology, hear who were the real superheroes of that cast and who were the big, fat, doughnut eating phonies. But most importantly take the opportunity to curl up close to your mp3 player and be effected by one of the most sincere and inspiring people your bound to meet on this strange planet of ours... and try to walk away unchanged.

If you still haven't had enough of Tonya and you need more now, go have a listen to Tonya and the Vikings chat up the then new "Star Wars" from a show from the vaults.

Eat the Lion: The Viking Youth Chat with Daniel Pinchbeck

This week the Vikings sit down with author Daniel Pinchbeck to discuss how the research for his book "2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl" shifted from intellectual excersise into an unfolding of prophecy and the actualization of work in service of recontextualizing the world from which these prophecies emenated.

We discuss the changing of face of western culture and how the roll Burning Man is playing in that shift can be related to the way the beats created culture from their relatively small base. Applying Stan Grof's matrices we explore where we may be in the birthing process and what we can do to further crystallize the needed changes.

Finally we discuss the visionary mandate Daniel received during an Ayahuasca ceremony telling him he was an avatar of Quetzelcoatl. Movinig beyond a simple belief we explore the implications of drug-induced possessin states and how this relatively common experience is still taboo within the psychedelic culture. We ask what is the origin of these archetypes that can impose upon human consciousness and how does humanity's understanding of identity need to change to integrate these phenomenon?

Lee Chameleon's side project, Elvin, performs the closing track, "These Pills..."

Here it is, the Viking Youth at their finest.

Cohnny, bed ridden after a night of sweet jumps. Matty, beligerent after...well, a night of sweet jumps. Brian, bloody knuckled from keeping these fiends alive. And alas, Jason, the Ed McMahon to a world spiraling dangerously out of control.

We have very rare tape of Bob Hope making his Black Rock City debut after years of death. We have hearts spilling over cadillacs making the world more round.

Dick, the culture crash of Burning Man, and, of course, the end of the world.

Whether it be discussing the spiritual history of California, the PhilDickian pleasures of modern media, or extrapolating the implications of a blinky-light-strewn playa bike wreck , Erik's insights and observations are always a joy to coast along with as he untangles our very human mess of post-historical living.

Holy Crowley! We back! We finally back up on line!
Cut us some fucking slack would ya? It's been a barn burning few months for so many reasons, not the least of which was painting and converting that dear old Ragnarok and getting her out to the middle of fucking nowhere that we call home only to plug ourselves back into that ungrounded alternating circuit that some folks call Black Rock City. And then of course there's the ride home. And the readjustment back. And the punishing of the body for ever being born...
Put your noodles up children and bask in the last remaining bits of radiation as we talk about our trip to Burning Man... the ups, the downs, our amazing guests including Erik Davis, the BurnCast kids, Tonya Kay, and the Burn Clean Project. We'll be posting those shows in probably half-week increments over the next few weeks and then we're back on our regular schedule.

The show was hot and cold and the recording sound is real lousy, but it gives you a flavor of what was going on.

Running late after working on the bus in the 100 degree heat all day we started our show discussing the great lessons learned on this fateful afternoon. We chat a bit about our plans for the playa and our show scheduling. And wrap things up chatting a bit about possibilities for the future.

The Bird Flu and You

What's funnier than a dead bird lying in a puddle of it's own exploded head? 100 million people doing the same thing! Well, ok, maybe not funnier, but certainly funny enough for us to do an hour long show on this stuff. I mean, come on, if Uncle Milty had his hands on this kinda material...

So, yeah, sure enough, this week we discuss the H5N1 or what is better known as the Avian Bird Flu. Our hope is to school you all on this possible source of the next pandemic so that if it does come you, our lovely and talented listeners, can survive. That's right, Charlie Manson had his Helter Skelter, we're working on our H5N1 rehab program - Sticky Pickle - where we'll finally get some poor schmuck to pay us for this nonsense just out of complete lack of competition.

That's right, we'll fill your dirty little brains with tales of viruses and explanations of how your body battles them both naturally and with the aid of naturally occuring solutions. We'll stumble down memory lane as we all sip our wine coolers and laugh about the Spanish Influenze of 1918 that killed more people than the first world war. We'll make tasteless jokes about what might happen when the old "blue death" comes knocking around again.

The world can be a terrible and misery inducing place, you don't need other "legitimate" news sources to tell you that, just stick around right here with the Viking Youth, we'll bring you down with as much panache as the best of the big boys.

The Vikings Chat with Alex and Allyson Grey

Tip toe through the tryptamine tulips with the Vikings this week as they spend some time with visionary artists Alex and Allyson Grey.

Alex and Allyson were in Chicago a few weeks ago to help raise money for the village that will be the playa-home to Alex's Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, Entheon Village. We discuss the origin of the village's name and the different events it will host including another installation in the always enjoyable Palenque Norte talks that in years past has featured speakers such as Erik Davis, Daniel Pinchbeck, Alex, John Hanna and many more. One of the more notable speakers this year will be Sasha Shulgin.

Alex and Allyson share their experiences at the party, talk about why they are involved in Burning Man and the implications they see developing from the community. They also talk about the very unique and inspiring relationship the two of them share, how they met, and how their art continues to co-create symbiotically between the two of them.

Pick your face up off the floor friends, your about to have your pretty little mind blown. Music at the end created by Every Drum a Star.

Please help the Vikings drive their veggie oil bus to the playa!!!!

If you've ever listened to our show and thought "Damn these Vikings are Dope, I should roll them some dough!" NOW IS THE TIME TO DO IT, PLEASE!!! We rarely ask for money and feel a bit dirty doing it, however, we hope you can find comfort knowing that your money is helping us spread the Viking message to the greater world, share our gifts with our fellow Burning Man participants on the playa and allowing us (and you!!) to act as a working example of sustainable fuel alternatives to others. And if that isn't enough... you'll be given the all powerful "Blessing of the Third Testicle" in the after life - FOR THREE CONSECUTIVE LIVES.

Everyone who donates will receive a free Viking Youth/Veggie Bus limited run sticker. Anyone who donates over $75 gets a Viking Youth limited run T-Shirt, anybody who donates over $100 gets a Viking Youth beer stein, anyone who donates over $200 gets a very limited run (20 count) 10" embroidered back patch for your leather.

Any amount is appreciated, even $1. If you have any questions just hit us up with an email at vikingyouth@thefeedlot.org.

Thank you VERY much and we'll all celebrate this amazing acheivement by tipping some ice cold beverages playa-side in a couple months.

In the second half of our show on Philip K. Dick, the Vikings meander through the multiple mind states of our fearless author picking apart the events and aftermaths of what came to be known as the V.A.L.I.S trilogy.

We discuss the final work of PKD which, unfortunately, was never completed and how that project known as "The Owl in Daylight" shows PKD prophecizing his own demise 2 weeks before it's occurrance.

Throughout his work PKD not only defined a new class of sci-fi hero - the delinquent savante - but also challenged our notion of what it means to be sane, what it means to be insane, and what it means to come to realize that our defining organism - the artist who created this whole mess of several worlds, the organism we all may be but fingers upon fingers of the same self within - may itself be as batty as the most batty amongst us.

Philip K. Dick Made You

Grab a drink and fill that pipe full kids, this week the Vikings indulge themselves in the greatest Science Fiction writer of our time and a modern day christian/gnostic prophet, Philip K. Dick.

While you may be familiar with the many films adapted from his novels (Blade Runner, Minority Report and A Scanner Darkly among others) you may not be aware that in February of 1974 - around about the same time R.A. Wilson was having some strange visits from the Sirius star system and Tim Leary was busy bouncing his ethereal body up over the walls of San Quentin - PKD believed that a satellite, V.A.L.I.S, which might have been part of a Russian covert operation, part of a nervous breakdown, or perhaps even God itself, blasted a pink laser into his head. The subsequent effects of this experience left Dick speaking languages he did not know, accurately diagnosing illnesses he should not have been aware of, and living in two realities simultaneously...one as PKD, the other as an early christian under prosecution from the Roman Empire. What resulted for the rest of the world were two of the most unique and important science fiction novels in the history of the genre, "VALIS" and "The Divine Invasion".

AJ was our editor, satellite Viking Channel Null offers up our closing hymn.

The Death Knell of Democracy?

The second part of our 9/11 show, we wrap up by calling some of our own questioning into question. Could the the motard's in the Bush Administration or their ding bat friends fat on the lard of their own souls really manage to pull something like this off and keep it under wraps? Could it really be pulled off by a small number of evil shits? So small that it could actually be made to dissappear? And most importantly... if in fact this was a job orchestrated by American citizens on American citizens... what kind of devastating impact would that have on the decent citizenry of this great country?
Every day it seems this country slips a little bit further into the cracks of complete devastation, deceit, and doom. Very little is certain as the world opens it's chest to expose what it's really like on the inside. But while chaos increases and more thick necked fat-heads lap their knuckles with the blood of good people's intents every day, the only thing for certain is that this country (the people of this country and this world) must remain steadfast and resolute in word, deed, and action against all enemies of love, light and freedom, on the inside and out. It's always easier to see the lies when your wide-eyed. Tom Waits wraps us up with a little levity from the old frog himself. Happy 6/6/6!!!!

The 150 Year Storm

Drinking to the end of american democracy the vikings tread across the grim waters of the 9/11 conspiracies. We get things rolling by discussing how the news stumbled into the collective and individual laps of the vikings and the challenges it posed to a group of dingbats from a generation who found patriotism anethema.

We drop some science about how governments and ruling bodies over the years have used military actions to get the people behind their agendas. Look up the USS Maine and the Reich Stag smart ass.

We then move into a discussion and dissection of the very important video Loose Change. if you watch any video on the questions with the dominant 9/11 story, please make it this one. Even if you've seen other videos, even if you're absolutely certain you have ALL the answers about what went down on that dark day, please do yourself a favor and watch this video right away.

When those planes incinerated into ash against the two towers of western civilization the world began it's rusty saunter towards a truly new day. Whether that day, which is creeping towards us with an increasing velocity, becomes one of never before imagined freedom or a crippling hiccup and recapitulation of a legacy of unbalanced power is yet to be seen, but coming to find answers as to who participated in what artist Paul Laffoley called "the end of post-modernism" may be a powerful initiatory step to rediscovering hope.

Devendra Banhart closes the show with "Crippled Crow".

In this second part of the non-drug induced trance states show we explore some more recessed aspects for attaining the gnsosis state - such as the use of Taboo - and dissect that favorite of all slippery slopes "Do What Thou Wilt". Mat attests to the obvious fact that LSD makes you gay (duh!) and at the same time pleads a great case for the life experential.
We chat up a very inebriated Lee Chameleon about the practices of glossalalia that the Pentacostal church uses, as well as it's hierarchies and the back woods, shit kicker, god spittin' cult techniques used to instantiate it's ever growing minions.

This week we chat on the many flavors of trance induction that is not catalyzed by our friendly chemical co-horts. That's right kids, you can blast your bio-suit in the beyond in ways the government has not even considered outlawing (yet). Some of the most popular and harmless techniques come in the many tools of the NLP set as was inspired by the brilliant Milton Erickson and his brand of hypnosis appropriately called Ericksonian Hypnosis. We also discuss sigil theory and the surrealist, post-modernist tools old Uncle Bill Burroughs brought to the table in the course of his prolific lifestylings. You can't talk about naturally induced trance states without chatting up the whirling dervishes and shamans and you sure as hell can't talk about shamans without discussing Eliade. Did you know you can achieve gnosis by using pain, exhaustion and starvation. Holy Shit children!!! So lift your eyes to the ethyr and your finger to the man, drift away from their nonsense, petty control structures and into a heaven of your own design. God speed!

Burners Without Borders

This week the Viking Youth Power Hour is joined by water department spokesman, and architect of Burning Man Information Radio's on-line presence, Tom LaPorte.
Tom recently made a trip down to Pearlington, Mississippi where he spent a week with the victims of Hurricane Katrina and a group of Burning Man participants who, after the burn this year, picked up and moved their playa-based operation to Pearlington in order to help provide food, fire, demolition services and the unique burner sense of community service and dedication to work. Calling themselves Burners Without Borders, this group has dedicated the better part of the last 8 months to sharing the skills they have honed on the playa with the people of first Biloxi - rebuilding a Buddhist Temple - and now Pearlington.
We discuss the heartbreaking loss Tom witnessed while he was down there, but also the inspiring perspectives of people who were forced to rebuild their lives from amongst the rubble of what was once their beloved town.
We are offered a rare opportunity as Tom gives us the first chance to hear some of the interviews he collected while in Pearlington and that he will be using for his hour long radio documentary which will be published at burningman.com later this month.
It's incredible to see the ethos and the elbow grease so many of us experience on the playa validating itself and coalescing in a kind of service that may become increasingly necessary in the coming years. This is perhaps the Viking Youth episode I am most proud of all our work to date. Our hearts and our hope go out to all the victim's of Hurricane Katrina and all the wonderful people helping these people to put their lives together again stronger than it was before.

Flaming Lips Biographer Jim DeRogatis

Hey all you Flaming Lips nerds, this one is for you! We blackmailed Chicago Sun-Times rock critic Jim DeRogatis with some pictures we found of him wearing clam stuffed fishnets and peeing on a litter of kittens and forced him to come onto our show and talk about his great new book Staring at Sound: The True Story of Oklahoma's Fabulous Flaming Lips.

You'll hear mind blowingly articulate conversation and well reasonsed questions about... the new Lips album At War With the Mystics, how their live show has changed since the Yoshimi tours(s(s(s))), and the startingly low amounts of drugs front man Wayne Coyne has actually ingested in his lifetime.

We also muscle our way into the truth about... will we ever get to see Christmas on Mars? What really happened to Ronald Jones, Brian Wilson and the beauty of "Pet Sounds" and, most importantly, how to derail a late night confronsation with Herr Coyne should you ever find yourself within one.

Oh, and stick around for the end of the show dear listeners! We have a rare and never before heard version of "Turn It On" recorded with the Lips and the Butthole Surfers with Steven on banjo. Horly Sheet! You heard it here first.

Thanks so much to Jim for submitting to our blackmail! This show was edited by Brian very late at night on too much kratom after too long of an interval from the last show. See if you can find the mistakes in the editing and you could win a chance to edit all of our shows in the future smart ass! (Happy Bicycle Day!!!)

Mat schools us on circus lingo and the virtues of the Farmer's Almanac as we further dissect the implications of an increasingly intrusive government and corporate run culture.
Hey kids! Did you know that the top three TeleCom companies are in the process of using their power and money to turn the internet into a tiered system where information will be graded by them and shows like this will become near impossible to find? You can thank that mongoloid Michael Powell for helping to put this into motion back in his short and destructive stint as the head of the FCC, but it's the heads of Verizon and his cronies who are trying to make sure that their hold on power remains tight.
But there are heroes in this battle and they demand your support: Freepress.com, the Media Access Project, Common Cause and Senator Widen, among others, are working diligently to lobby and pass laws protecting the neutrality of the internet and to expose 'astro turf' organizations which these giant corporations are setting up to make it look like the American people actually want this horse shit ruining their country and their lives. These organizations need your support please consider donating to them if you are able.
We also discuss RFID tags how they'll be used to track your purchases, how they'll be used to revolutionize the retail industry, whose fighting against their use, and how clubs in Barcelona are using them to fast forward fashion.
So much strangeness and so much hope, it makes you wonder how the panopticon will change our socieites taboos and their priorities in the future...

Greys, Crowley, the UFO phenomenon, and the death of a species

This week the vikings lunge for the heart of the anomoly that is the UFO phenomenon, discussing personal experiences like the UFO at Burning Man 1999. Patrick Harper's book, "Daemonic Reality" removes the UFO/Alien phenomenon from the very American history of the Greys and shows parrallels throughout the history of man. Before these beings were considered travelers from outer space (really???) they were for a long time considered fairies and other interdimensional beings.
In the early 20th century that old coot Aleister Crowley, during a sex magick working, called up a being which was calling itself a LAM and is the first recorded documentation of what today is called a Schwa or a Grey. Theory has it Crowley opened a door way. Theory also has it that American rocket scientist Jack Parsons and world renowned huckster and bleeder to the stars, L. Ron Hubbard, kicked this doorway back open in 1946 and gave way to the UFO phenomenon we are being told we exist in.
Rudolph Steiner gives a thoughtful consideration of what these and other similar creatures might be in his book "Harmony of the Creative Word".
Something to keep in mind with these buggers is, like most extra-phenomenal experiences, these intelligences require something within us to become real, they require hooking into our emotioinal matrix, taking seed, and then developing thorugh memes. This is the same game the gods have been playing for the course of human history (see Moses and Yahweh for an example).
Who knows what the fuck is going on? You do? Rightio, I'd like to hear your hunk of horse shit too, cuz none of it stands up for too long. So whether it's some kind of alien intervention, a new membrane on the skull as Arthur Koestler thought, or just the collective panic of the world realizing that for the first time in human history we can literally destroy our entire species with very little effort, you must admit there is some coo-coo shit coming down and you have been blessed by living in interesting times.
Edited by Alex, Engineered by Jason, Music by Lee Chameleon, Outro music is 5-MEO-DMT by Time Machines (this song is meant to be played over head phones and used, as you may have guessed by the project's name, to travel through time. Give it a try, it certainly does create some kind of unusual field).

The Trouble with Halpern (Episode 42 part 2)

In this half of our celebration of Albert Hoffman's 100th birthday, we discuss the controversy which befell Basel when blotter artist Mark McCloud outted MAPS MDMA researcher John Halpern as an informant for the DEA. The accusation dates back to the 2000 bust of Halpern's supposed friend Leonard Pickard who is now serving 2 life sentances for running the largest LSD manufacturing facility in the history of the chemical. Apparently Halpern cooperated with the DEA to the extent of a number of interviews and tape recording several phone converations. Here are the two records McCloud produced indicating this.... Document #1 and Document #2. Here is video from the event of McCloud confronting Halpern about the matter (WMV only). And finally here is the email response from MAPS director Rick Doblin clearing up some of the innaccuracies of the accusations, but leaving some very large questions unanswered as well.
There is no doubt that Doblin has his heart in the right space and that MAPS has done a great many things in it's course of existence and that it will continue to do great things, but there are some hard questions that should be asked - and should be answered - as we as a community chart a path of this sort.
We also discuss the anti-Americanism that Justin faced at Hoffman's birthday party, the good old days of the 1960's, and the 10,000lb heart that was Allen Ginsberg.

This week the Viking Youth wish a Happy 100th Birthday to Albert Hoffman, the father of the compound that is the staple to any good vikings diet, LSD-25.
To help us send well wishes to our good friend Dr. Hoffman we have with us Justin Pomeroy, psychedelic luminary, palmist, accupuncturist, and musician (from Chicago's notorious, The Dirty Words). Justin has just recently returned from Basel, Switzerland where he celebrated Dr. Hoffman's birthday with the likes of Sasha Shulgin, Christian Ratsch, Rick Doblin, Alex Grey and many more at the official celebration. As part of this momentous occassion psychedelic hard-hitters world wide convened to share stories, share ideas, chart out a future for psychedelic use, and shake an ass or two at the moon.
Justin is one of those rare individuals whose openness, excitement and intelligence is only outshined by his warmth and interest in others. Join the Vikings as we discuss our favorite of Dr. Hoffman's contributions to the world of science and spirit.

This week the Viking Youth talk to documentary film maker Wayne Ewing about his films and friendship with the late Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. Wayne has made 2 feature length films about the good doctor, "Breakfast with Hunter" - an award winning piece of verite which chronicled Thompson in many of his exploits of the last 20 years of his life - and, more recently, "When I Die" an hour long journaling of the memorialization of Dr. Thompson, from conception to the infamous send off of last centuries most influential American writer.

If you're in Chicago please make a point of attending the screening of Wayne's most recent project "Benched: The Corporate Take Over of the Judiciary" playing at the Gene Siskel Film Center on Sunday January 29th at 3:30pm and Monday January 30th at 8:15pm. Come out and support a great film and learn how Illinois politics are up for sale to the highest bidder. And while you're there make sure you stop by and say "hi" to the Vikings.

Robots are Taking Over the World!!!

The Viking Youth sit down with Ken Gumbs director of the documentary "Building Gods", a self-funded feature length film about the coming Super Intelligent machines and Artificial Intelligence. We discuss with Ken the philosophical, technological and spiritual implications of this seemingly imminent and inevitable development of human history.
Presently, Chatter-bots, CYC programs and the Blue Brain Project are all being developed to learn how the human brain works and will most likely achieve a marked level of success in our life time. But once we successfully map the human brain what will be the implications not only for where we stand as a species but where our goals individually and collectively might take us? And how will those change?
What will the hyper-intelligent machines look like? And how many intelligences will these machines have? Simply cognitive? Emotional? Athletic intelligence? Will Artificial Intelligent machines have a sense of pride about their creations or care for their creations as we have found in some humans?
Is this the end of humanity, the over-fetishizing of intelligence or maybe even the next step in human evolution? Big shit, bubba. Big shit for sure. To help clean the pallette on this high minded quest let us quote our very own and very dear Viking Alex... "Technological Singularity is just the Rapture, but for nerds."

We talk to Jason about his book, his new website Ultraculture, what happened in the '90's, what didn't happen in the 90's, and where we might be carried by the currents of the new magical renaissance taking seed world wide.

The Magic of Christmas!!

The magic of Christmas, the power of commercialism and the powerful grip of the Archons... lo, the holiday season is upon us and the Viking Youth Power Hour take their pistachio encrusted livers towards the path of understanding this strange whirlwind of decadence and delights..
We break down some of the histories, some of the myths and celebrations going on during this time of year. For instance, that douche bag St. Nicholas gets his feast day, Dec. 6, because he destroyed the temple of Artemis on that day. And as we all know, there was no greater threat to humanity, than a demure, beautiful, intelligent goddess of the woods whose presence may impart wisdom upon you. Thanks Nicky, patron saint of pissing blood on all that is good and pure.
But despite whatever interface you may use to understand the numinous (as long as it's not too incredibly stupid, hateful, or, ummm, interested in perpetuating itself as the one true faith), the holiday season is a time for everyone to drop their bullshit, prop up a glass of egg nog and spend some time with family and friends thinking about the power in potential in humanity. The Vikings raise their glasses to all of you, our families, friends, fans and influences so that we all may pass through this longest night together.

Chuck Cosimano: Psionic Supervillain!!!

Joining us this week is Chuck Cosimano, better known as Uncle Chuckie, the elder madman of radionics and, according to some, the impetus for the fall of Communism. Uncle Chuckie explains to us the mystery of Radionics, the history reaching back to Dr. Abrams and how it has developed over the years.
Just for good measure Cohnny rocks the Cosimano psychic helmet he developed based on plans from Cosimano's site. Check out Uncle Chuckie's site, it's a store house of easily built radionics devices.
Chucky explains the ins and outs of being a Psionic Supervillain and you may be surprised to find out just how a true villain spends his days. Also he gives three effective techniques on how anyone can begin using Radionics right now; one is the fantastic freeware radionics program CyberShaman (DOWNLOAD THIS PROGRAM AND USE IT NOW!!!! REALLY!!!).
If you're interested in contacting Uncle Chuckie you can email him at drpsionic@aol.com

How do the vikings feel about canada? Matt experiences have shown him that while some canadians have disdained him immediately, what really bothers him is that the country of the US was written off by the Canadians carte blanche. It's the same goddamn country, it's just the northern part has a better sense about their public policy. We open the eyes to the health coverage crisis which Condrad is not aware of the direness of our situation. and it is dark, my friends.
Alex joins us and we raise a glass to the Stones! And then he preceedes to expound on the virtues of cream, lobster, and popping the drawers after a meal at Legal Seafood.
And then for some reason we talk about our first profound memory...
But beyond all this horseshit, GOD BLESS JOHN LENNON. thanks buddy, my glass is raised to you forever.

We dip back into the vaults of this past summer to bring you a lost episode. Drinking to Chicago, talking about Canada. We've got our boy Calgary Conrad - fine soldier, trouble maker at large, and free agent Canadian. Conrad talks about his experience during his visit to Chicago and we also talk about how Americans are viewed abroad... in Canada, France and beyond. We chat on Terrorism in the States and bad airport stories and how Canada felt about 9/11 and the US's response to the attacks. This leads to a discussion of the vast differences between the seeming honorable battle of World War II and the patent lies of our current clusterfuck in Iraq. Are there christian kanucks?

This week the Viking Youth Power Hour interview with author and psychedelic chess bully R.U. Sirius about his phenonmenol book Counterculture Through the Ages : From Abraham to Acid House. Started as an idea between co-author Dan Joy and Tim Leary the book chronicles counterculture from Abraham, to the Taoists, the Troubedours and Transcendtalists, all the way up through the hippies and the electronic music movement. We also discuss R.U. Sirius' friendship with Timothy Leary, his view on Smart Drugs and being the host of one of the internet's most interesting podcasts, the R.U. Sirius Show and facilitating a course at the Maybe Logic Academy.
This is the first of a series the Vikings will be doing this year interveiwing inspirations and other Vikings battling on the torrid front lines of weirdness.

What can we say... Halloween is the Viking's favorite holiday! We open up with your truly reading from his favorite boyhood book, Octopus Press' "Tourist Guide to Transylvania". We chat over favorite Halloween memories from youth. And then we get into the shit. We chat on the history of Halloween and try and straighten out some of the bullshit the dingbat christians have perpetuated over the years. We discuss the taboo of death and the rituals of other civilizations which seemed more balanced and coincidentally revere the dead with more respect than us fatheads here in the states.
It's late, I know. Back off we're fucking busy. But if you sit tight, I promise, good things are coming!

A New American Mysticism

Tired of dull spiritual traditions? Sick of out dated irrelevant cosmologies shit-tonned together from dingbat superstitions? Do you loathe those wide-eyed new age dildos who fear the glory of a well cooked turducken? We are!!
So this week we set our rugged boat toward an understanding of what is needed to pull this world from it's present spiritual cluster fuck. Fundamentalism ain't the answer. Atheism is just another dogmatic faith. Science sure isn't enough to account for all our peculiar experiences.
To come closer to an answer we discuss personal experiences - like Jason's experience with a terrifying Angel. A close viking compadre, Todd, discusses Dzogchen and some of the technologies that can be adopted from this rather intersting branch of buddhism free of the baggage of a pre-fabbed mythology.
It's a high falutin goal to say the least, but this week the vikings do their best to discuss our gripes with the big 3 and the different techonlogies we have adopted to maintain our interactions in the divine without getting our sleeves caught in the hogwash of the holy.

Discordianism in America(Recorded at Burning Man 2005)

Paul from the PK and J Show recommended that we do a show on the fair maiden Eris and the many emanations of Discordianism in the last half of the 20th century. All the Vikings being heavily influenced by that wiley old mick Robert Anton Wilson it seemed like the perfect show for us. So we did some research and came up with some amazing information, most of which is pulled from Adam Gorightly's amazing book, The Prankster and the Conspiracy: The Story of Kerry Thornley and How He Met Oswald and Inspired the Counterculture. We touch on this book and Kerry Thornley's fascinating if tragic life as well as the lives and influences of many other prominent discordians and those who were influenced such as PTV, TOPY, the Church of SubGenius, the Cacophany Society, Burning Man and a whole lot more. We also get a musical interlude from a wonderful fucked up kid who goes by the name Breakfast and sings loves songs to his toothbrush and Niacin. It's hard to imagine a more eloquent way to say, "Hail Eris!" .

Our second installation from the asymmetric shores of Black Rock City Nevada. Today we talk rather loosely about our experiences so far on the playa both positive and negative. There is some chatter about police presence and also some chatter about how to properly win a Cohnny. We're joined by several different characters from our illustrious street in BRC including famous 3D designer Jon Krussel, aspiring stand up philosopher Pumpkinhead, and most notably, the producer of VoterGate and a dear friend Rob Cohen.
The intoxicants ran rich this fine afternoon, see if you can figure out who is putting what intoxicant into which orifice simply by the sounds in the background. Ahhh decadence....

Recorded in front of a live audience at our joy-addled camp, Radio Free Valhalla, in the windy confines of the most beautiful fucking city on this planet - Black Rock City. This is the first of 3 shows we were able to salvage, they are raw, and they are beautiful. This particular show traces the history of the counter culture from the Beats up until today when we have manifested ourselves a culture to call our home and a beautiful city to hang our hats.
The playa was gorgeous this year, our hats our off to all the gorgeous people who made it become.
Pictures and video will come in the coming weeks, as is a total over haul of this site making it purtier, leaner and far more evil than ever before. I'll try to get the rest of these episodes up tonight or tomorrow. Next year, there is no excuse, we want to cull our army of disco-queers playa-side!!!

20 Years of Burning Man

Recorded in front of a live audience this past Friday this episode kicked off our amazingly successful fundraiser for our Burning Man theme camp, Radio Free Valhalla!. This was the test run for what we'll be doing daily on the playa, implementing Audacity and JazlerShow! to allow us to record the show on the fly. And as the beast's nature would have it there was a bit of a problem... ok a huge problem. We lost the middle - and of course best - segment; about 25 minutes talking about some of the major tenants of Burning Man. But what remains is at least a slim portrait of what you might come to experience on the playa. We cover the 20 year history of the Man and the event, we talk about theme camps, Leave No Trace, and most importantly we about personal experiences.

The Viking Youth offer their best to the survivors of those lost in the horrific terrorist attacks in London and try to wrap their heads around what could ever drive a person to kill another human in the name of any belief. Oh yeah, that's right, dirty, power hungry, soul fuckers like GW and bin Laden twisting the minds and good intentions of easily manipulated cattle. Right, right. We track back the lineage of bin Laden to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and LBJ. We have not created this world, only inherited, perhaps we can take these lessons and apply them to the future?
Lightening the load a bit we get onto more important issues like where to get the finest cuts of meat in Chicago. The answer ladies and gentleman... the Paulina Meat Market. Ahh yes, put on those short shorts, give yourself a brazil wax with duct tape and suckle your summer sun away with your lips locked tight around some vennison bratwurst and summer chips. Alex expounds on the many virtues of steak as he takes his short sabbatical from his daily diet of frozen pizza and chocolate milk. Damn, that meat is sacrelicious!

You Break It, You Buy It: What to Do About Iraq?

As the third major operation to stifle the wills of the Iraqi civilians... er, insurgents... ooops, Jihadists - yes, Jihadists! takes place the Viking Youth dissect the history and future of this perverbial egg on the face of human decency. Bombs explode as Karl Rove feeds his houseboys into the Moloch Machine and the Viking Youth ask the important questions like: how many car bombings were there in Iraq before freedoms bloody footprint placed itself up the ass of this unfortunately placed sandbox?
But really, if what we're doing there now is causing a civil war and leaving would cause a civil war doesn't the sanest answer seem to be to get the fuck out of there and save lives, money, and priceless military resources? Ahh, but that would be abandoning the Bush Administration's beloved new staging ground allowing them to maintain control in the mid-east.
In all fairness all military operations are messy little kittens at best, so perhaps the media presence is just bringing too much of a microscope to the situation? Will the holes punched in the propaganda machine by the new faces of independant media make it harder to win this war? Who can help us out of such a horrible mess, but Aquaman. Please Aquaman, massage our collective feet, mud mask our collective pores, please Aquaman be the salve this drooling sore of a country needs so bloody bad.
Right, right, what the fuck do we know really? We're just a bunch of drug addled, fun loving brats sitting on the grissle of humanity's greatest empire, barking back noise into the Babylon Box to make ourselves feel important.
Pledge allegiance to the Viking Youth. Send us your young for the War of the Ages. And remember this: before the Suck N' Drawl seige upon the people of Baghdad back in March of 2003 the oft thoughtful Colin Powell had this precocious warning to offer the Bushies about the cluster fuck they were about to embark this country upon: "You break it, you buy it."
Let us all hope in the next life we are not judged by the people we allowed to maintain control over this beautiful world.

The Devil and Rock and or Roll Part 2

The 60's were full of frollicking pagans in frocked shirts and mumu's. And while the devil is as big a fan of transgenderism as the next guy, the dark lord's ears weren't quite piqued to full pentagonal pleasure until somewhere around the mid-70's when along came a few blokes from England calling themselves Black Sabbath. Ladies and gentleman this is what happens when a culture thriving on tea time and crumpets tries to swallow the dirty tricks of our long deceased Jimi Hendrix. What was stars and stripes and fire and voodoo becomes high black masses, men in cloaks, and screaming farm stock.
But Black Sabbath was just a dress rehearsal for true devlish troubedours like Venom and Slayer.
At this point Alex finds himself beating a dead horse forcing us to swear a viking blood oath to never use the once glorious "metal voice" on air ever again. Sleep well good soldier. After several other lackluster, whiskey-fueled, false starts on brother Alex's part we steer the boat back to order with a disection of the Satanic backlash of the mid-80's and a discussion of who were the real satanic musicians.

Gain the power of the ancient technique known only as the "Kiss of the Goat". We uncover the connection between Jazz and the Skeet Skeet Skeet all over the concrete. Meet Robert Johns at the crossroads and bargain with Lucifer himself. Learn to not believe the hype about KISS but believe the hype about WASP. As a special treat Brian graces us with his glorious singing voice and leads the Vikings in a rousing rendition of "Shout at the Devil". The Rolling stones and Sammy Davis Jr. turn their backs on God and produce some of the best music the world has heard. So turn off your mind and fear the wrath of Queeny filmmaker Kenneth Anger, and sacrifice a goat on Mick Jagger's personal mobile alter to The Devil.

Entheogens Pt. 2

Our second installment on Entheogens finds our fateful heroes dipping deeper into the complexes of Kratom. Justin drops some science on the esteemed plant, but not without some disputing of information found on Daniel Siebert's site Sage Wisdom.
Asking the difficult question "When are you not part of the Godhead?" leads us into perhaps the most personal segment of our show ever produced. The vikings talk candidly about personal experiments with ketamine, MDMA, LSD, repetitive beats and the king bee of the entheogenic mothership... 5-MEO-DMT and Ayahuasca.
Lastly, we chat about how that shameless cunt of an attorney general, Gonzalez, who, as his first duty in office, brought the entire might of the United States government down on the a 130 member branch of a Bravil-based syncretic religion which uses Ayahuasca as it's communal sacrament (UDV). Gonzalez, you torture hungry, dickless cracker wanna be, when the gods line up to take stock of your lipstick smudged soul at the end of all days, don't be surprised when they send your dirty sell out ass back to the shit house it came from... forever.
Entheogens are not fun and games. While they can be enjoyable at times they will challenge you and bring you to the edge like nothing else available on this planet. When you make the choice to see the face of God you pay in the mercurial currency of everything you know and believe to be real. This can and does lead to devastating consequences if you are reckless or unfortunate. But at the same time it can also lead to an understanding of your life and a respect for your being that may otherwise remain elusive throughout your days.
Edited and engineered by Lee Chameleon and Jason. This week Viking music was supplied by a talented listener 3rd Degree (aka Matt Lohman). Thanks Matt! Our announcer is Thomas Shade.

Entheogens Pt. 1

Entheogens have been a means of communication between plants, animals and possibly even stars for as long as this earth has been alive. This week on the Viking Youth we take a look at the history, present phenomenon and the continuing conundrum that these plant and chemical allies present.
This week we have several in studio guests as we attempt to prepare ourselves for the live recordings we'll be doing at Burning Man in August. But the only guest brave enough to weather the microphones storm is Chicago's very own, Justin Reed.
We start out by defining entheogens and what are certainly not entheogens and Jason gives a quick reading from Thomas de Quincey's classic tome, "Confessions of an Opium Eater".
This week we have a new Battle Cry from perhaps our most aged and potentially most stoned listener the host of the Bear Cave phoning in his war face. God speed man!.
Is pop culture and the rock star phenomenon an initial longing for regaining tribal elders, days when shaman, learned medicine men, would lead the tribe into a harmonious path with stories and plants?
You can't talk about entheogens without bringing in some of the heavy hitters themselves. Folks like Gordon Wasson, John Lilly, Aldous Huxley, Albert Hoffman and Ken Kesey.
In the '50s LSD was taught to psychiatry students as being the new wonder drug that would change the face of psychiatry forever. But then something happened and the dominant current changed it's story. All the positive LSD propoganda, including cover stories in Life Magazine on the virtues of psychedelics came to a screeching halt. But why? Perhaps it had something to do with this man? Was Leary the great psychedelic saint some believed him to be or was he just a raging hard on with a taste for the spotlight? Probably a little bit of both.

Star Wars!!!!!

This week we talk on all things Star Wars. With very special guest valkerye Tonya Kay - raw foodist, dancer, traveler of the world, heroine extraordinaire - who, incidently, knows nothing about Star Wars. We get things rolling by chatting up Star Wars memories from youth and beg the most important of questions: George Lucas is an incredibly rich man why can't he hire a fucking dialogue writer?
Joseph Campbell was a great influence compelling George Lucas to attempt to create a new American Mythology stolen almost directly from Frank Herbert's "Dune" and Kurasowa's "Hidden Fortress".
Is Yoga a child molester? And what about the intense homoeroticism of the jedi tradtions and anniken and the emperor. And really what is up with this fan fiction phenomenon and all these nerds writing Star Wars porn? Joking.com is a great star wars spoof site.
Is Alex the Emperor? Maybe he's just an Aries.
Tonya thinks the only reason the movie sucks is cuz it was written to sell dolls. But really these bastards wrote the books on selling dolls! And clothes, and culture...
We talk on what is our favorite Star Wars toy... And lastly, could a show on Star Wars really come and go without talking about deviant Wookie sex. Lastly we talk on our favorite Star Wars characters of all times. The nerd love is running deep this week.

Techniques for Lucid Dreaming

Continuing our show on Dreams, this week we cover the many methods of recalling and navigating your dreams. These techniques can be used for things as enriching as collecting an unemployment check or as seemingly meaningful as clearing up your karma while you sleep. The Dzogchen buddhists use lucid dream states to try and stop dreaming altogether. A fine manual for the Dzogchen approach is The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep. We also touch on possession states as they occur in dreams and why Mat can't even get laid by a succubus. Brian talks on some of the less intelligent means of inducing lucid dreams - techniques like excessive sugar just before bed. But if you're not inclined to such harmful methods there mother nature has offered humans a few of her riches meant to specifically induce more mindful sleeping, calea zacatechichi and several others found in IAmShaman Shop's lexicon of dream inducing herbs, Dreamer's Blend. Lastly, we touch on the huckster bullshit that is KYCY radio in San Francisco.
This week we have a battle cry featured from one of our faithless listeners as well as a musical interlude by the lovely and talented Lee Chameleon.

Living in the Dream Time

This week the Viking Youth bring their Detroit comrade Gregg Newsom along for their journey into the world of dreams. We invoke CG Jung as our faithful guide and troubadour as we ponder the probability that dreams may be information expounded upon us from something like the akashic records or the morphogenetic field as opposed to being simply archetypes genetically predisposed for the architecture of our mythologies. Fine example of Jung's idea of the shadow is Bob from David Lynch's Twin Peaks. Jason expounds upon Goat Cheese Pizza and the turmoils of a quasi-schizophrenic in a post-indulgence serotonin drought. Brian's relays his birth as a post-mammallian insect and how that related specifically - precognitively - to PK Dick's Valis. Matt hits on a dream involving Vanna White and the Logos as we all slowly come to realize that Alex may be in the process of being opressed as we speak. Lee Chameleon knows of a place where all the mountains are indoors and everyone wears only the finest in dress shoes.

Eschatology Part 2

More eschatology! We start off with Science and Eschatology, Technological Singularity, and Kurzweil's "Law of Accelerating Returns". We might come to the point in the near future where we can upload our consciousness into machines to acheive immortality or screw large swarms of squishy nanobots. Technology may be slowly indoctrinating humanity into an existance of true quantum potential, free of wires - a true devil's playground! Just call we're all connected! We touch upon with gentle hands the Viking eschatology and Ragnarok! Damn those vikings had a tight mythology... and oddly enough their end times myth sounds real freaking familiar. In a rare Viking Youth sound seeing tour we get exclusive access to the papal election process which elected arguably Jim Henson's finest creation; the pope. We chat about the inanity that is Chicago's Viaduct Mary and somehow Jason works a Depeche Mode song into our abusive words.
Edited and engineered by Lee Chameleon and Jason. Viking music by Lee Chameleon. Outro: "Watch the City Burn" by Mr. King. Our announcer is Thomas Shade.

Eschatology Part 1

This is the show that we've all been waiting for, this is why we do this fucking get up in the first place. Yes, Virginia, we're talking on Eschatology this week. We begin our foray into this sordid theme with a discussion on Christian eschatology and the Book of Revelations and how apparently St. John had some troubles wooing his publishers into motion. Our very own Lee Chameleon talks about growing up playing drums in an Evangelical church for people speaking in tongues; he gives a fascinating first person retelling of this phenomenon that should not be missed. We parlay on the differences and similarities between the Christian eschatology and the hippie eschatology, the 2012 phenomenon. We can't reccomend enough John Major Jenkins fascinating book Maya Cosmogenesis 2012 : The True Meaning of the Maya Calendar End-Date. Interestingly enough Terrance McKenna stumbled across a similar Omega Point while ingesting cubensis mushrooms in South America creating a gorgeous articulation of the DMT space. We touch on the frustrating tale of would-be jewish messiah, Sabbatai Zevi and drop some mad science about Mayan astrologers. We also give the question for the Run with the Vikings contest.
Edited and engineered by Lee Chameleon and Jason. Viking music by Lee Chameleon. Outro: "Cowtown" by Lee Chameleon and Gabriel Palomo. Our announcer is Thomas Shade.

Comic Book Culture

The Vikings invoke Jack Kirby creator of X-Men, Avenger, Thor, and much more. We bring good Mr. Kirby along for a journey look back across the history of Comics. We hit on Max Gaines arguably the creator of the comics medium. We wonder if the power to fellate oneself is perhaps the greatest super power one could have. We chat on America's favorite and first hippie, Superman and EC comics, the company responsible for such dirty shit as Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror and ultimately the CCA. Robert Crumb is a depraved and brilliant man. What is it about comics that allows the world as we know it to become more mutable? And how will comics - and things like Sin City - change they way we absorb information as a mythic reality? Finally we talk about the true masters of the arena, Alan Moore, Neil Gaimon, and most importantly... Grant Morrison. Lastly, sweet, stubborn listeners, if you have not yet, get your ass off the couch and go buy The Invisibles - it will shatter your tiny little world.
Edited and engineered by Lee Chameleon and Jason. Viking music by Lee Chameleon. Outro: "Insect Survivors" by Iklatus. Our announcer is Thomas Shade.

The Terrible Sublime

This week the Viking Youth gleefully invoke the black mother herself, Kali. She is one of the most misunderstood of the hindu deities and, as a result, a diety that represents perhaps one of the most subjugated paths to creation... the path of destruction. We apply the current of Kali to culture and reality as we presently know it. Matt quotes J.R. Oppenhiemer and the Bhagavad Gita with the words he spoke while watching the fruit of his labors mushroom before his eyes. But the Viking Youth are not ones dwell on the negative, we turn our eyes towards the advancements brought from nucleur development and how Japan rebuilt itself after World War II. At the same time the first atom bomb was dropped LSD was developed and the alien abduction/visitation culture developed. April 8th was a big day it seems, even though the Cubs managed to lose. And finally we look at Pete Townsend and Keith Richards as the embodiment of that destructive spirit and at the same time we wonder what the fuck was up with Styxx.
Viking music was created by Lee Chameleon, invocation and exit music: "The Absolute End of it All" by Jakob Creutzfeldt. Show engineered and edited by Lee Chameleon and Viking Jason.

Citizen Investigators

Invoking Woodward and Bernstein the Viking Youth takes their slack jawed razor to the phenomenon of citizen investigators and the death of journalism. We wonder on where exactly has the tenacity that facilitated the collapse of Nixon's empire gone in these days and times when we need it more than ever? Perhaps the last man standing worth the honorable tag of journalist is author William Vollman... and he's not even a journalist! We discuss Upton Sinclair and the muckrakers as well as well as wondering when the hell monkeys decided they needed an "authority" on a situation. Are we really this big of cowards? Well not all of us. There are a new breed of citizen investigators that are taking the bull by the Bush. Namely Bev Harris from blackboxvoting.org and the folks behind the documentary Votergate. Also the fine folks running blogs are stepping up a fine fight. Onwards good citizens, this is our fucking planet, it's about time these alpha geeks start answering to us.

God's Not in a Cage

Oscar Wilde to set the proper standard, the Viking Youth tackle deviancy in it's many, rich forms. As one might guess,
a good start to understanding deviancy might come from taking in a bit of the horse porn or perhaps studying the private
lives of those dirty shits in the FCC. These candy whipped bastards are trying to figure out how they can regulate cable
television, would someone please inform these half-bred, chronic do-gooders what their job actually is? We discuss the
threat of America's McDonaldization and that if fundamental Christians bothered to read the entire story of Sodom and
Gomora they might come to find that the creep Yahweh saves from that fateful space does right by his god by piddling
his daughters. Since we know the Christians can't read Matt does the honor for them. Bottom line, it's down right hard
to draw the line - and really why would you want to? And only an ignoble, mongoloid, fool wouldn't love the great elder
and harold of all that is good in this world, Henry Miller.

War!!!

It's a muddy one this week on the Viking Youth Power Hour as we come horn to horn with humanity's longest running hobby, War! We invoke Alexander the Great and get stewed on the delicious and demanding pleasures of Kratom as we try and figure out if this eternal idiocy is a necessary process of humanity or just a symptom presently lodged in the craw of the most loud-mouthed and fucked up monkeys this world has ever known. We hit up the Great World Wars, the present cluster fuck in Iraq, we try and figure out what the 'Warrior Spirit' is, if we can ever move beyond blood shed as a means of perpetuating our species. Finally we look at the utter waste of time, money and lives that is the War on Drugs. Jason also manages to shoe horn in a quote from Tolstoy and David Lee Roth.
It's a longer episode this time folks, but when you're talking about war it's hard to wrap it too tightly. We've added a fourth mic to the production this week, Lee Chameleon has made us another great, new bumper and Thomas Shade joins us once again.

Invoking famed occultist and one of the most important people for putting humans into space, Jack Parsons, the Viking Youth tackle the impossible question of Evolution. After reading an excerpt from Parsons' book "Freedom is a Two Edge Sword" our guest, Thomas Shade, wonders if Jack Parsons was a precursor to the Beats or a peer of Jimmy Swaggert. We touch breifly on James Nachtway's wonderful anti-war photo book, "Inferno". Is evoluti
