Your Future Outlook: Grim

Recent article in RADAR explores the possible existence of a database of over 8 million Americans whose habits and information have been illegally collected with plans of targeting in case of a “national emergency”.

When reading an article the likes of this I tend to the habit of dialing my assumption of reality back to about 50% of what the article is portraying, reminding myself that there was much information that was not included in order to support a better story and stronger argument. Even with my crazy filter soberly attached to the information included here I still feel this is an article worth considering deeply.

Unfortunately, it seems there’s little else one can do about this, but consider.

  1. i just scanned the article, i’m kind of busy. the old rule is divide by 2, then move down to the next unit of measure. 400,000 sounds pretty believable. But then again, you can probably fit data on 8 million individuals on my 4GB keychain USB drive, and definitely fit some “advanced” behavior-monitoring algorithm on an 80 gig drive that fits in your briefcase. Who knows.

The FEMA COG plan gets the spotlight every couple years. In the 90s it formed a key part of the X-Files movie plot. This sounds like a case of a cub reporter or writer who just discovered the plan for himself. to the ’90s Leftover Freak and Tin-Foil Hat Reconstituted Brigade, this is not news. that, and one last thing to consider is that government analysts can’t spend all day long playing solitaire, so they have to cook up these contigency plans just to keep busy. There’s also a detailed Cold War contingency for invading Canada (hasn’t worked before, but third time’s a charm). It’s worth remember the last time FEMA took the reigns–Hurricane Katrina–it wasn’t Alex-Jones-style martial law: it was a total joke, one that cost many people their lives. If they could pull that police state off, they would have already. As it stands, it serves their interests to tell us a little ghost story. About 1 in 4 (i forget the figure) enlisted men have said they’d fire on US citizens given the order. But 3 out of 4 said they won’t.

The only thing that is interesting is how Cheney, Rumsfeld, Reagan, Ollie North, etc. *keep coming up*. I wouldn’t be surprised if 50 years from now we get something like “War Is a Racket” on these fools, or if history books detail how a shadowy cabal charted significant portions of US policy in the Late 20th Century and early 21st. Bill Moyers did a piece on Iran-Contra and dubbed it the “Shadow Government”, which was 100% accurate. It’s a small world for these guys and they’re ready to exploit nearly every opportunity, and failing that, create them. I won’t go so far as to suggest that these guys are part of an active, organized conspiracy today, but they some of them clearly have been even found guilty of it before…

Just the thoughts of a paranoid pretending to be a productive citizen.
