Ways to Maintain A Relationship With a Loved One in A Senior Care Facility

At times, moving your aging parents into senior care is challenging. Some would prefer to stay in their homes, while others would rather stay with their kids. However, you find that these centers are where they can receive proper care and prevent them from injuring themselves. When a loved one is in these facilities, it is still good to maintain your relationship with them as they can get lonely at times. Below are some things you can do.

Make the Visits Meaningful by Planning Activities

Whether you visit them daily or thrice a week, making the visits meaningful and memorable will be good for both of you. You can play your favorite game, go for a walk, watch a movie or have a coffee date with them. Sometimes, visits become monotonous, but when you plan them with meaningful activity, both of you look forward to them.

Plan For Visits and Some Time Away

As much as visiting them is good, it is also essential that each party has some independence. Cypress Cove advises that your loved one should be able to spend some time with other seniors in the facility as well. Let them learn some independence, meet new friends and develop new relationships. Being around people sharing the same experiences will do them some good.

Spend Some Time Outside the Facility

If it is possible for your loved one to join you on a short excursion or trip, take them with you. Going on a trip allows you to create more memories and strengthen your bond. When planning for a trip with the elderly, their health and safety should be a priority, ensuring they are comfortable and that you have carried their meds.

As much as moving to these facilities is challenging, you can ease the transition by being there for your loved one. Use the above tips and try to include them as much as possible in your life. This way, they will feel their relationship has not changed.
